Forsberg scores lacrosse-style goal in Predators loss to Oilers


EDMONTON — Filip Forsberg scored a lacrosse-style goal, but the Nashville Predators lost to the Edmonton Oilers 4-2 at Rogers Place on Tuesday.

Leon Draisaitl had two goals and an assist, Connor McDavid had three assists, and Mike Smith made 30 saves for Edmonton (25-18-5), which is 6-3-1 in the past 10 games.

Pekka Rinne made 28 saves for Nashville (21-17-7), which had a seven-game winning streak in Edmonton end.

Josh Archibald converted a cross-crease pass from McDavid at 9:09 of the second period to break a 2-2 tie.

Draisaitl scored into an empty net on the power play with 49 seconds remaining in the third period for the 4-2 final.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins gave the Oilers a 1-0 lead at 9:01 of the first period. Draisaitl had an assist to extend his point streak to seven games.

Forsberg tied it 1-1 at 10:42 with a lacrosse-style goal, picking the puck up with his stick behind the net and sending a shot that deflected in off Smith’s chest.

Colin Blackwell gave Nashville a 2-1 lead at 15:41, redirecting in a centering pass from Nick Bonino.

Draisaitl tied it 2-2 on the power play on a rebound at 19:42.
